The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Illustrated). Ici, ce livre est bien connu des grands parents qui n'ont pu oublier Erol flinn dans un film dont il est le héros d'une adaptation Le Prince et le pauvre

Facile à lire et à transporter au quotidien

I love the movie so decided to get the Kindle book. This version was free, so I downloaded it. It didn't take long for me to throw up my hands at all the run-together words. How do some publishers have such low standards? All they need is a decent scanner. Do they even look at the finished product before putting it on the market? So, I found another version for a whopping 99 cents that doesn't have that problem. Below is a short example of the first, free version:"Bet and Nan were fifteen years old-twins. They weregoodhearted girls, unclean, clothed in rags, and profoundlyignorant. Their mother was like them. But the fatherand the grandmother were a couple of fiends. They got drunkwhenever they could; then they fought each other or anybody elsewho came in the way; they cursed and swore always, drunk or sober;John Canty was a thief, and his mother a beggar. They madebeggars of the children, but failed to make thieves of them. Among, but not of, the dreadful rabble that inhabited thehouse, was a good old priest whom the King had turned out of houseand home with a pension of a few farthings, and he used to get thechildren aside and teach them right ways secretly. Father Andrewalso taught Tom a little Latin, and how to read and write; andwould have done the same with the girls, but they were afraid ofthe jeers of their friends, who could not have endured such a queeraccomplishment in them."

What a great book. Having used the 7th edition often, this was a pleasant update to the old edition with updated photos, easier navigation of pages, and overall just a fantastic resource that Im sure everyone involved with neurosurgery for years has been using. The book in my opinion just feels cleaner with a better layout and color coding scheme that helps once you have used it a few times to quickly navigate an otherwise complex load of information. Cant really speak to how great the book is as I am still new to the field, but has proven itself time and time again for me in the short time owning it to be a great companion for rounds, pimp questions, quickly refreshing prior to cases etc... In my opinion the 8th edition is worth every penny for the upgrade from the 7th, however I really wish that a PDF, eBook, or some other quick referencing computer source came with it as it would be amazing to navigate 1000+ pages using control+F (find) for one specific bit of information without having to waste time finding what I need in the index then to be referenced to a different section etc....

It is one of my favorite Mark Twain books, even better than his two most famous. It has no obscene language that I recall, some violence but not largely exploited and graphic, and a very surprising ending. I would say it is acceptable reading for most ages. However, It is somewhat graphic in the area of the quality of life the poor and unprivileged people are subjected to or find themselves in. It also shows how a wealthy person may lose everything. it shows the brutality of terrible and inhumane laws that were enforced during that era and in that particular country. But despite all this, the book is a good example of hope and perseverance by a young boy, and dynamic imagination by another young boy, This along with respect and love are the undercurrent flowing throughout the story. The characterization is convincing. It is full of wit and a little tinge of fantasy in thinking. You might say it is a little bit of Mark Twain and Charles Dickens combined.

This abridged audio book was no exception. Keep in mind though that some characters in this story are pretty mean - Dad verbally abusive and tries to beat up his son, the pauper... Etc. Wouldn't listen to this with kids younger than 7-8 years? Otherwise most enjoyable as always!

Having never read The Prince and the Pauper, I was expecting a lighthearted, funny story in the vein of Mark Twain's other works. Set 16th century England, the story is about Henry VIII's son Prince Edward and a pauper boy Tom Canti born on the exact same day who also happens to look exactly like the prince. Their paths happen to cross one day when the prince witnesses the pauper being mistreated and he takes him back to the palace. Intrigued by the fact that they look so much alike, and thinking that Tom's life sounds like carefree fun, the prince decides they should switch clothes. They are both amazed by how indistinguishable they are. Then suddenly the prince decides to punish a servant who has mistreated Tom and runs out of the room still wearing Tom's tattered clothes. Thus he sets in motion a chain of events that traps each boy into the other's role..The story was as lighthearted as one would expect from Mark Twain, but the adventures each boy faced were more intriguing than I expected and made the story better than I expected. This is great family entertainment, well-done by the Colonial Radio Players. I do wish the ending hadn't tied up so nice and pat -- after all the conflicts each boy was entwined in, to have it all end so neatly was somewhat of a letdown. But that's Twain, I suppose. And younger listeners should be satisfied with it.
